(The cash award winners are itemized below.) In addition to the cash awards, all participants in the competition for this year who qualified with the challenging number of points required will be receiving Award Certificates in very nice Award Presentation folders. The cash awards will be presented at our Awards Ceremony on May 4th. At the same gathering, the Award Certificates will be given to the involved teachers so they will have the flexibility of presenting the awards to their individual students at their own convenience and in whatever manner they so desire. Only the most enthusiastic student workers throughout the year were able to meet the challenge of the required number of points for entry. CCMTA proudly commends the enthusiastic work of all involved students and teachers! Funding for these very special annual awards is made possible through an Endowment Fund set up by Pat Wickey, CCMTA¹s first President, and her family. We are most grateful for their generosity. We’re happy to report that Barbara Cowen has come back from a very close call resulting in an emergency angioplasty. She now has stents to keep coronary arteries open, and hopes to resume teaching next week….John Hendrickson had a surprise guest performer for us at the April meeting. He was scheduled to do the program himself, but he got a call from Paul English the night before the meeting. Paul had to cancel his February appearance with us, as he was called away on business at the last minute. So John grabbed him for the April meeting, and he gave us an excellent program on jazz improvisation, with many ideas for how teachers could encourage their students to be creative.
