CCMTA Student Activities

The purpose of the Competition is to provide Student Affiliate pianists, vocalists and instrumentalists a competition opportunity with emphasis on Standard Repertoire while allowing some teacher discretion in the repertoire choice. This competition may be seen as preparation for the student to possibly compete in contests/competitions involving students from larger regions, while allowing the participants a chance to compete close to home surrounded by friendly faces. The Chairman may combine grade levels to create a category of five or more students.

To provide for the student a wider musical experience than is usually afforded in private music study, with recognition for achievement in various phases of musical education and activity.

To provide students with public performance experience.

To provide a challenging and stimulating experience for interested students. Selected winners perform in a Winners' Recital.

To honor deserving High School pianists for outstanding achievement and determination in the development of a total musicianship. It is the donor’s desire that the recipients use the scholarships to assist in their continued education on the college level.

To promote student creativity and understanding of basic compositional principles. These include: Accuracy & legibility in notation, Clarity of design & form, Rhythmic variety, Melodic interest, Harmonic plan, Texture - consistency & unity of rhythmic, melodic, & harmonic ideas, Dynamics & marks of expression, Phrasing & articulations

To promote excellence in music research and publications. To give the student the possibility of his or her essay being published in the Texas Music Teacher/Student Affiliate magazine.

To stimulate interest and appreciation for music composers, their works, and the history of their times.
