2003 NEWSLETTER
AND I HEARD HIM EXCLAIM ERE HE DROVE OUT OF SIGHT,
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL, AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT!
As you celebrate this Christmas, may you find new blessings, new excitement,
and a higher threshold of living for yourself and your family. To me, CCMTA
means friendship, dedication, and commitment as I work with all 50 of our
members.
You all mean the world to me. This year has meant extra blessings for me,
working
as your president, and I thank you for that opportunity.
May God cradle you in his arms, and give you a rock solid foundation for
teaching for 2004! As we
celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour, may you have a
wonderful holiday season.
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU ALL1
Your president,
Rebecca S. May
Spring Theory Test Deadline: Although the test is not until
February 7th, the deadline is January 9th, before our next meeting. Remember,
even if your students took the fall test, they can take the spring test if they
failed the first one or just want to shoot for a higher grade—the better grade
is the one that counts. Send entries and fees by the deadline to Chairman Brad
Love, 2107 Lexington Woods, Spring 77373.
Experienced Teacher Ready for More Students: While many of our
teachers have waiting lists, Sharon Anthony has room for more students after
years of teaching in a school district. She resigned from that position last
summer and now is able to add to her private studio. She teaches both piano and
voice, has been a member of CCMTA for 21 years, belonged to Guild for 23 years,
has a Master’s Degree, and has been teaching privately for over 30 years. She
lives in the Cutten Green subdivision, which is near FM 1960 and between Cutten
Rd. and Champion Forest Dr. She can be reached at 281/580-7848 and 281/895-0944.
Last Remaining Yard Signs: Becky May announced that we still have
5 yard signs left. If you are interested, please collect your money, and send
$20 per sign to our treasurer, JoAnne Griffith, and then call Lori or Luellen at
Magnolia Sign Source, at 281/356-6399, and order the name you want on the sign.
TMTA Guitar Clinic: At our November meeting, the CCMTA Board voted
to fund the Guitar Clinic at the 2004 TMTA State Convention in San Antonio. This
will be in honor of Andrea Cannon and all the work she has done for guitar
teachers and students in the state of Texas. Andrea is the very first guitar
teacher in the state of Texas to ever apply for certification. Go, girl!
Questions About Guild? The speaker for our January meeting, Julia
Kruger, is going to talk about National Guild and would like to know what you
want to know. Please give our program chairman, Dorothy Kirkpatrick, some
questions you’d like to have answered so that she can pass them along to the
speaker in advance. You can e-mail her at
dkirkpatrick@houston.rr.com, or
check the yearbook for her address and telephone number.
Furthermore...
We’re sorry to have to report that Wendy Wells’ father, Robert Walzel,
died on November 7th after a long illness. His extensive obituary in the Houston
Chronicle highlighted a distinguished career. Our condolences to his family….We
thought Andrea Cannon’s absence from our November meeting/lunch was due to
having to deal with flood waters from the day before. It turned out she was
dealing with water all right, but it was a plumbing clog caused by backwash in
the sewers—no small matter, but at least it wasn’t due to rising water….Crystal
Beltran had her baby on October 28th—a 7 lb. 12 oz. boy they named Beau Vincent.
He joins a family with two brothers, one of whom, Jonah, had his first birthday
the very next day….At the November get-together Barbara Cowen shared her
excitement at the arrival of a new grandson, Tyler, who was already seven weeks
old….Becky May is looking forward to a Christmas visit with her son, Roy, Jr.,
who will be coming home on a 12-day leave from the U.S. Army Old Guard in
Washington, D.C.. When he returns to Ft. Myer, Virginia in January, he will be
going to U.S. Army Ranger School at Ft. Benning, Georgia. Her daughter Amanda
and son-in-law Justin Coussoule will visit for the weekend between Christmas and
New Years. He is in his second year of law school at the U. of Maryland, and she
was recently hired by Proctor and Gamble in the Baltimore-D.C. area.
