Fall Theory Test: The descriptive page and the entry form are slightly different from last year. The new ones are available in the yearbook, which you can pick up at the New Members Coffee on Tuesday, September 13, or later at the Music Rack. Otherwise, they can be downloaded from our website, www.ccmta.org.

Original Composition Contest: Entry forms are in the Yearbook and available on our website, www.ccmta.org, and must be accompanied by the fee and the student’s manuscript, following requirements in the Student Affiliate Handbook. No late entries will be accepted. The recital on September 24 will be taped so that the judge will have the benefit of a recording of the compositions. Critiques will be back from the judge by November 15, after which the students may make any changes suggested by the judge. Finished compositions must be returned to Chairman Linda Anthony by January 9 for submittal to TMTA.

From the President: The big event is coming soon. Our annual Teachers Perform for Students concert will take place on Saturday, October 1st. We are planning a Silent Auction in conjunction with the concert this year. If it goes well, we will continue to combine the two functions in the future. The immediate need is for someone to step up and take over the chairmanship of the Teachers Perform portion of the evening. This person will be in charge of organizing the program and having it printed. Colleen Bell will be an invaluable source of information.

We need many teachers to participate to make it a success. All categories are accepted: Solo or Duet, Advanced Repertoire or a demonstration of Student Repertoire. If several of you play instruments other than piano, an ensemble would be nice. Microphones will be provided if necessary. Also, with a little assistance, the performances will be recorded on CD and can be made available later for a donation.

Please bring items for the Silent Auction to the meeting on Tuesday, September 20. Put up a notice in your studio and ask your students’ families if they have anything they would like to donate. This could be a service or a product. Products should be new or collectables in excellent condition: in other words, something you would want to buy. They may be music related OR NOT. Remember, all proceeds go to our scholarship funds. Contact Dorothy Kirkpatrick at 713-983-7223

Fall Festival: This year’s Fall Festival will be on November 5th at the Cypress Creek Christian Community Center. The registration deadline is October 1st. The Fall Festival Master List Form in this year’s Yearbook, slightly revised from last year, must be in the hands of the festival chairman on or before October 1st for your students to be registered. Please note the Division I or Division II designation now required on the form. Division I judges will be instructed to provide encouraging, positive feedback for the students’ performances and use the 1+, 1, 1- rating system. Division II judges will be instructed to have a high level of expectation for the students’ performances and will be encouraged to use all four ratings available (I, II, III, IV). Division II students will be required to have their music memorized. The Critique Sheet deadline is October 18th. You must complete and submit a Critique Sheet for each student to the festival chairman by October 18th in order to complete registration. Please see me at the meeting with questions or contact me at 281-373-4759 or mparker113@houston.rr.com. I hope to see many of your students at the Festival!

Tracey Parker, Chairman

Furthermore. . . JoAnne Griffith’s sister Jeannie Cox, who played background music for our anniversary celebration following last year’s Teachers Perform for Students Recital, lost her husband to an aneurism this summer. Our sympathy to Jeannie and her family….Several months ago I had sought information about Honorary Member Dee Schroell, and the news just received is not good. She has had severe health problems and has moved to St. Louis to be with her daughter, but we don’t know the daughter’s last name, and Dee left no forwarding address…. Bonnie Jacobi has an article on page 34 of the most recent American MusicTeacher….Janice Van Derbur treated herself to some fine music at Interlochen this summer. She’s also now a great aunt. Her niece gave birth to a 9 lb.9 oz. baby boy—21-3/4” long!….Andrea Cannon’s daughter Maryanna, was married September 3rd . She’s a fine guitarist, who has performed for us at May Luncheons and who was the recipient of our Grants-in-Aid Award in 2004 for her internship in Music Therapy at Sam Houston State….Becky May’s daughter Amanda made Becky and Roy grandparents when she gave birth on August 7th to 7 lb. 4 oz. Caroline Grace, 19” long. Amanda, Justin and the new addition live in Adams, Massachusetts, where Becky spent 10 days helping out, and was joined by other family members over the Labor Day weekend. Congratulations to all!
