He earned a Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Houston, with an emphasis on piano and french horn. Just this year, he was elected to a three-year term as a Director of TMTA. After graduation, he went to work for Wadler-Kaplan on Main St., working his way up to store manager—a position he maintained after the merger with Pender’s Music Co. Performance Contest Entries Due Immediately: The TMTA Local Performance Contest application forms and fees are due on Saturday, January 7. The entries may either be left at The Music Rack (in the CCMTA crate), or mailed to chairman Don Harris by the deadline date. To reconfirm information already sent to members via e-mail regarding appropriate forms to use, procedures of registration, etc., we will emphasize the specifics again at this time. • The two forms that should be turned in by the January 7th deadline are: (1) Form P2 (Application Form for Grades 7-12) (2) Form P2a (Student Affiliate Performance contest Repertoire List for Grades 7-12) • The forms may be found, filled out and printed on line at tmta.org - under "forms”. Simply click to open forms, then scroll down to “Performance”. Once information related to the Performance Contest opens up in Acrobat Reader, scroll down until you get to the desired forms. You will find the "P2" and "P2a" indication on the top right hand corner of each form. (Choose the “Print” version rather than the “Interactive” version if filling out on line and printing is desired.) If there are any further questions regarding the forms, or any other matters related to the Performance Contest, you may contact chairman Don Harris at donhharris@charter.net. He will be happy to assist you in any way he can. Good luck to all participants! Former CCMTA Scholarship Winner Now College Senior: Jennifer Thurber, former student of Linda Anthony, presented her Senior Piano Recital at Brigham Young University on Saturday, November 13, 2005. Jennifer received CCMTA’s $500 Scholarship in her senior year in high school and participated in most CCMTA and TMTA activities from 7th to 12th grade. She received a full academic scholarship to Brigham Young University and a talent scholarship for piano. She will receive her degree of Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance in April of 2006. Furthermore. . . JoAnne Griffith’s sister, Jeannie Cox, who lives near Waco, suffered an accident the first week of December. She doesn’t drive a car, but rather gets around everywhere by bicycle, and she was hit by a car in a crosswalk and thrown from her bike, breaking her ankle and fracturing her hip and pelvis. She was in a wheelchair for three weeks and now uses a walker. Despite this and the loss of her husband last summer, she has a remarkably resilient attitude, and is even wondering if she could perform for us again as she did during our 25th Anniversary Reunion Reception….Sad news from Linda Anthony, who says that her father went to be with the Lord on Christmas Eve. He was 91. Our condolences to Linda, who lost her mother the year before. |
