These dual activities have given him a perspective best expressed in his own words: "I strive to encourage our keyboard students to understand and experience the intertwining relationship between solo performance, piano pedagogy, accompanying and chamber music, and am establishing a Keyboard Collabor ative Arts Department which models this philosophy." Mr. Hester attended both the University of Houston, where he studied with Albert Hirsh, and the Juilliard School, where he studied with Adele Marcus. He has performed widely as both soloist and collaborator, including Carnegie Recital Hall, Wigmore Hall, The Kennedy Center, The National Concert Hall of Taiwan, The Barns at Wolftrap, The OK Mozart Festival and most concert venues in the Houston area. The registration deadline is Tuesday, February 21st. Indicate any schedule requests for students on the registration form. There will be no changes to the schedule once scheduling is completed. Critique sheets are due no later than Tuesday, March 21st. Thank you for the responses to the Festival Questionnaire. The information provided was quite helpful and will be used when we "tweak" our festivals for next year. Please change Nancy Johnston’s e-mail to CFMusicAndArts@aol.com Performance Contest Results Revealed: The Local TMTA Performance Contest for CCMTA was held on Sunday, Feb. 5, at H&H Music. We had an impressive total of 19 students (including five classical guitarists) participating in the event this year. Our Judge for the piano segment was Dr. Earl Holt, who is chairman of the Fine Arts Department at Montgomery College. He was very impressed with the high percentage of outstanding performing he heard throughout the day, and selected the following unranked winners to advance to the TMTA District Competition at Baylor University on March 4: Piano Solo (7-8) Rebecca Chen (Weems), Lucy Lian (Peng) and Alice Wang (Weems) (Kathy Wang (Weems) 1st alter., Gina Su (Guess) 2nd alter. and Grace Wu (Guess) 3rd alter.) Piano Solo (9-10) Daniel Chen (Weems), Jason Lee (Peng) and Victoria Yeh (Bell) Piano Solo (11-12) Sophie Chen (Weems), Vicky Ren (Peng) and Rishabh Sinha (Harris) (Matthew Scanland (Herring) 1st alter.) Piano Concerto (9-10) Jacqueline Perrin (Bell) Our judge for the guitar segment was Armando Rodriguez, who holds a degree in Musical Performance (Classical Guitar) and is a certified and well established guitar instructor in the Houston area.
