Free Concert: Enclosed with last month’s newsletter was a flyer courtesy of Sarah Black, about a Mass of the Children to be performed at St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church, 7810 Cypresswood Drive on Sunday, May 7th at 2:30 PM. Sarah would like to let you know that Nursery is provided and add the following: The program will offer a variety of music that everyone will enjoy. Our dynamic Life Teen Band will offer several exciting selections. In addition to our talent resident flutist, Lisa Dumestre, others who will return to offer instrumental solos are Jeffrey Easley (now a student at M. I. T.), bassoon; J. T. Frankeny ( a performance major at Sam Houston State University), trumpet; and Timothy Higgins (performance graduate of Northwestern University, now a professional freelance artist in the Washington, D. C. area) trombone. Installation of Officers: The following, having been elected at the April meeting, will be installed at the May Luncheon:
Member-of-the-Year: A secret ballot was unnecessary to vote for this year’s Member-of-the-Year, because Andrea Cannon was chosen by acclamation. She will be presented with the award at the annual luncheon. Grants-in-Aid: Pamela C. Haynie will be awarded a grant to continue her work in music therapy with the elderly in nursing homes, especially with alzheimers patients. CCMTA is pleased to be able to help make a difference through music therapy by awarding Pamela this grant, to be presented to her at the May Luncheon. Results of Harris Activity Awards Finalized: Cash awards were won by ten of the twenty-eight students who succeeded in achieving the required number of points for entry in CCMTA’s fourth annual Harris Activity Awards Competition. Three of the remaining 18 participants won 2nd Place honors for tying in points with the 1st Place Cash Award Winners, but without also tying in both theory and composition scores. All other students earned honorable mention awards for their impressive efforts as well. A list of Cash Award Winners, 2nd Place Winners and Honorable Mention recipients is included as an insert in this newsletter. All awards will be given to the involved teachers at our May Luncheon so that each teacher may have the flexibility of presenting the awards to their individual students at their own convenience and in whatever manner they so desire. Only the most enthusiastic student workers throughout the year were able to meet the challenge of the required number of points for entry. CCMTA proudly commends the enthusiastic work of all involved teachers and students! Funding for these very special annual awards is made possible through an Endowment Fund set up by Pat Wickey, CCMTA’s first President, and her family. We are most grateful for their generosity. TMTA Original Composition Contest: Congratulations to the following winners:
Chairman Linda Anthony reports that Orson Clay received Honorable Mention in the Junior Category in Texas in the MTNA Composition Competition, for which we offer our congratulations. Congratulations also to Orson Clay and Jesse Lozano for their first published pieces with Ogilvy Music in its Young Composer Series: "Jousting Until Sunset" and "A Parrot's Journey" by Orson Clay and "Circus Rag" by Jesse Lozano. Furthermore. . .Both Vicki McDonald and her husband have been enduring serious health problems. Dorothy Kirkpatrick checked on her when we hadn’t been heard from her for quite a while, and found that she hadn’t been able to teach since early February and just now plans to resume. Get well soon—both of you! |
