AUGUST 2006 NEWSLETTER

DATE: August 15, 2006

PLACE: Brook Mays Piano Store, 7670 FM 1960 West (The Commons at Willowbrook)

TIME: 9:30 AM—Board Meeting; 10:15 AM—CCMTA Meeting; 11:00 AM--Program

We will be meeting a month earlier this year, and we will be meeting in a new location this year. There are so many more members living in the western end of the area that we felt the above facility is now more centrally located.

Please see the map to the right for the exact location. If you need further directions, you can telephone the store at 281-890-6951. (They don’t open officially until 10:00 AM, but they will open for us at 9:30 on our meeting days.)

Pick Up Your Yearbooks: The Yearbook Committee has worked hard all summer to have the yearbooks ready for this meeting. We know you’re always anxious to get the calendar to set your own studio calendar and get a head start on filling out the forms for September’s deadlines. So be sure to attend this meeting to get your yearbook. If you can’t be there, ask a friend to pick up your copy, or get it at The Music Rack where the extras will be taken.

Piano Contest Repertoire: The Repertoire Committee made their selections for the coming year and The Music Rack ordered them, so I’m enclosing the list to give you and your students a jump on that too. Piano Contest Repertoire List

Student Affiliate Dues: The dues will be increased $1.00 this year, for a total of $13.00. TMTA raised it $1 last year, which we absorbed, but TMTA increased it another $1 this year, and we need to pass this one along.

Constitutional Amendment: According to our Constitution, amendments must be posted in advance and voted upon at a general meeting. The Board recommends that the following changes be made in Article VI:

B. 2. Dues of members joining January 1 through March 31 shall be half price.

3. Dues of members joining April 1 or after shall be for the remainder of that year and for the following fiscal year.

Only members who have paid dues in full by July 15 will be included in the Yearbook.

Teachers Perform for Students Recital: Colleen Bell invites teachers to play and asks that you send her your information for the recital program as soon as you know what you will be playing—no later than September 22.

Don’t Have E-mail? Pick a Buddy: Matters arise over the summer and between meetings calling for actions, sometimes votes, which can be accomplished by e-mail, including discussion. If you don’t have e-mail, please pick a buddy who does—someone you can rely upon to fill you in when an e-mail requires action

Bonnie Jacobi Moving: I would like to let CCMTA members know that my husband and I have relocated to Boca Raton, Florida as my husband has accepted a new position at a software company in Ft. Lauderdale. I plan to teach elementary music and private piano, and am joining the Palm Beach Music Teachers Association. I will be presenting a Dalcroze workshop at the Florida State Music Teachers convention in St. Petersburg this October, and am excited to be attending the International Dalcroze Workshop this summer at Carnegie-Mellon University, where interpreters will be assisting faculty from 23 countries to translate instruction. Our new home is in the ideal location - 10 minutes from both the Atlantic ocean and the local Steinway dealer!
I will miss all of the teachers at CCMTA and wish you the very best in your lives and in your teaching. Remembering Zoltan Kodaly who used to say "Only the best is good enough for children", may CCMTA continue to uphold this standard in the years to come!

-Bonnie S. Jacobi

Furthermore. . . Don Harris, as most of you know, is also very active in the Conroe Music Teachers Association—so much so that he was voted CMTA Member of the Year for 2005-2006. We’re sure it was well deserved and offer our hearty congratulations!
