I will be glad to collect donations at the meeting, or if you would like to send your donation directly to Star of Hope, send it to: Randy Tabor, Star of Hope, PO Box 1505, Houston, TX 77251. New Honorary Member: I have the pleasure of being the recipient of this award, and of course I must leave it to Colleen Bell to provide the details: I am happy to announce that we have a new honorary member in CCMTA! The executive board voted unanimously to make Doris Erickson an honorary member of our association because of her distinguished service to CCMTA! Doris joined the organization in 1990 when she moved here from New York following the death of her husband. Since that time, she has been keeping CCMTA members informed with the monthly newsletter, which she has been editor of for the last 15 years! From 1992 to 1994 she served as president of CCMTA and was named member of the year in 1993-1994 and 2003-2004. She has been recording secretary for the last 6 years and always manages to make the reading of the minutes (even regarding the most heated of debates) humorous and interesting! She stays on top of deadlines, and helps those of us who like to procrastinate get our jobs done on time. She has served on the yearbook committee for eight years, and not a page is printed without her approval. She keeps up with the membership to make sure that the roster is correct, the committees are filled, and all the pages are consistent with the decisions and votes made at the meetings. She has been on the website committee almost since its inception and checks to see that all the information posted is correct and up-to-date. She also serves on the Endowment Committee for the Don H. Harris Activity Awards. Thank you, Doris, for all you do for CCMTA. You have given your time and your talent selflessly and generously, and your example of service is one for all of the members of CCMTA to follow. Please join us for a special recognition ceremony to honor Doris at the November meeting. Furthermore. . . Doris Lum recently had successful gall bladder surgery and, trouper that she is, she scheduled it so that it didn’t interfere with any of her music responsibilities…. Andrea Cannon’s son, Jared (former piano student of CCMTA members Sharon Anthony and Don Harris, was married in Austin on Sunday, October 8. His sister, Maryanna, took many of the pictures, and you can see them right here: www.CannonSong.com/Austin/Wedding ….Andrea also spent the summer traveling—to Colorado, Canada (where she soloed with an orchestra for the first time), Pennsylvania, and Alexandria, Virginia (where she shared the faculty bill with notable classical guitarists such as Ricardo Cobo and Benjamin Verdery.) |
