(We rarely see our own Janice Van Derbur because she’s so busy with this group.) Piano Duet Recital: An e-mail about this recital by Sharon Peng and Linda Herring has been sent to the association, but Linda would just like to add that the hour long program is fun and lively, and they hope students will enjoy it. Performing Arts Medicine Day: I hope you all read the information about this symposium which Dorothy Kirkpatrick sent out to our members. It’s all about medical issues affecting performing musicians. Election of Officers for 2007-2008: The Nominating Committee—Wendy Wells, Chairman, John Hendrickson, and Armando Rodriquez—have proposed the following slate to be voted upon at the April meeting. Additional nominations, with the consent of the nominee(s), can be made from the floor. After the officers have been voted in, members will be asked to nominate a Member-at-Large to be added to the slate. They will be installed at the May Awards Ceremony in the Forum of CCCCC on May 6th from 2:00 to 5:00 PM.
Member-of-the-Year: Colleen Bell was selected by unanimous vote at the March meeting and will be honored accordingly at the May Awards Ceremony on May 6th. Publications Contest: Chairman Gena Hughey is pleased to announce that CCMTA has two winning entries and three outstanding entries in the TMTA Publications contest. The winning entries are Christina Witkowski (student of Cheri Bell) and Elonzeya Teal (student of Sandy Toews). The outstanding entries are Mackenzie Gross (student of Sandy Toews), Melissa Wojtow (student of Nancy Johnston) and Adriana Cook (student of Nancy Johnston). Teachers can pick up their entries at The Music Rack. District Performance Competition: Don Harris provided the following results from the March 10th Competition at Baylor. Only two winners in each division could be selected to advance to the state competitions which will be held in June at the TMTA Convention. Harris Activity Awards Deadline is April 15!! Much excitement is in the air again this year for all students who expect to soar somewhat above the minimal number of activity points required for entry into CCMTA’s 5th annual Harris Activity Awards Competition. Cash awards totaling $500.00, and broken down in the manner described on page 33 of our yearbook, will be presented to the top achievers in this year’s competition. In addition, all other participants who qualify for entry by meeting at least the minimal number of required points will receive special honorable mention certificates, ribbons or medals for their noteworthy efforts throughout the year. (Reminder: The minimal number of points necessary for enrollment is 14 points for grades 1-8, and 17 points for grades 9-12.) All necessary information related to application requirements and other specifics of the awards are clearly defined in the enclosed document entitled “Application Procedures of Harris Activity Awards.
