Message from the President:
Yesterday, I had the opportunity of serving as an Outdoor Monitor for the high school and the Young Artist Vocal competitions for MTA/MTNA . It is always nice to see friendly faces from across the state and this was no exception. Saw old friends, met new students, and consoled one who found out on the way to the competition that her grandfather had just passed away. What a rewarding day!

The World of Music tests are coming along well. They will be ready for the printer in another few weeks. If you haven’t already started teaching WOM to your students, consider the benefits of having them know a little more about the great composers’ lives, about the history of the piano and more. Marilyn Johnson is the local chairman for WOM. She will be looking for your entries in a short while.

Progress is being made on the brand new Young Artist Solo and Ensemble Competition. The location is secured. Teachers are getting excited. There will be an update at the meeting, so be sure to be there.

The Fall Festival will be held in just a few days. Tracey Parker is keeping us informed on that event. Didn’t Nancy Johnston do a fantastic job on her first weekend of theory testing as the new chairman? Way to go Nancy! Thank you Brad for all the years of hard work you put in as chairman of that huge event. A lot of work goes into that event. Without all the rest of you, we couldn’t possibly have the quality events that we do. Thanks to all of our members for giving up time and energy to support and work at these events.

Dorothy Kirkpatrick, NCTM
President Cypress Creek MTA

Theory Test Information: We had 239 students complete their tests. A big thank you to all the teachers who worked or provided parent volunteers to cover for them. With everyone doing their part, everything went very smoothly. An extra special thanks to Evelyn Furr, Wendy Wells, and Linda Anthony for helping on both Saturday and Sunday. I was worried about being short-handed on Sunday, and they saved the day!

New Member Information: Welcome new member Jennifer Novak! Be sure to add her to your yearbook:  novakpiano@mac.com

CCMTA Piano Contest Repertoire: The CCMTA Piano Contest repertoire list printed in the yearbook will be the list used for the contest on April 12, 2008. The 2nd grade piece, Folk Dance from Pieces for Children by Bartok, is the one in D minor with open 5ths in the left hand. The 4th grade piece Sassy Samba is currently out of print and we are in the process of getting permission from the publisher to copy the piece. Please let Colleen Bell know if you need a copy.

Furthermore. . . Congratulations to Rebecca May’s student Romero Santiago! His picture is featured on the front cover of the Fall 2007 issue of the PIANO GUILD NOTES magazine. Romero has now accomplished all four special medals from the Guild--the Early Bach Medal, the Advanced Bach Medal, the Sonatina Medal, and the Sonata Medal. He is a junior at Klein HS.
