CCMTA Young Artist Solo and Ensemble Competition
April 19, 2008
Cypress Creek Christian Community Center
Purpose:
The purpose of the Competition is to provide Student Affiliate pianists, vocalists and instrumentalists a competition opportunity with emphasis on Standard Repertoire while allowing some teacher discretion in the repertoire choice. This competition may be seen as preparation for the student to possibly compete in contests/competitions involving students from larger regions, while allowing the participants a chance to compete close to home surrounded by friendly faces. The Chairman may combine grade levels to create a category of five or more students.
Requirements:
1. Student entrants may compete in piano, voice, organ, instrumental and chamber music categories and must be TMTA Student Affiliates and local members of CCMTA-SA. Age limit for organ only is age 22; all others must be in grade 12 or below.
2. A student may only compete on his school grade level. An exception is chamber ensemble, in which case a majority of students must be within the grade level limits.
3. A student may compete in two or more different solo and/or ensemble categories (vocal, piano duet and piano, for example.)
4. Students entering in vocal or instrumental solo categories must provide their own live accompanists and perform with accompaniment for pieces composed with accompaniment.
5. Piano and vocal solos must be performed from memory. Instrumental solo and all ensemble categories are "memory encouraged, but not required."
6. Each entrant must provide an original score for the judge. Accompanists whose scores include any photocopies must sign a waiver of liability. Students furnishing copies for out-of-print works must present waivers signed by an individual 18 years old or older. Computer generated originals are acceptable. The student must furnish a copy of the home page for the site on which the piece was obtained or purchased. Cadenzas must be notated.
7. Teachers may enter their students in any category, whether they teach that instrument/voice or not.
8. Students must compete in their current school grades, with the exception of students in Pre-K or K, who may compete in the first grade level.
9. Fee is $25 for solos and $50 for ensembles and is non-refundable.
10. Estimate due by January meeting, January 15, 2008. Entry forms must be in the hands of the Chairman on or before the deadline date, February 19, 2008, February meeting date. Fees must be postmarked on or before the deadline date. Forms may be received via e-mail from the competition chairman.
11. Hard copy forms may be mailed by individuals not using the computer. Allow for time in the mail, or hand-carry entries to meet the deadline. Advise Chairman by telephone if an entry is being mailed.
12. Students who are not members of TMTA and CCMTA Student Affiliate may compete. The entry fee for a non-member student will be $150 and $225 for Ensembles. All other rules and requirements apply to non-member students.

1. Timekeeper/Indoor Monitor will keep time in the competition. Any performance exceeding the time limit will be stopped, but not disqualified.

7. The Chairman, teachers, parents and students will demonstrate good sportsmanship, friendly fellowship and courtesy to all individuals during the competition and the Winners’ Recital and will abide by the CCMTA Code of Ethics.
8. Repertoire must be listed clearly on entry form. Repertoire listings that are not clear will be returned for modification. Changes in repertoire once the repertoire has been submitted must be via e-mail and received by the contest chairman no later than midnight on the day one week before the competition.
9. Schedule requests must be in writing, submitted with the application forms and may be honored at the Chairman’s discretion, based on the majority of schedule requests in the grade. Students may not perform at times other than the time block assigned for their grades.
10. An announcement of winners will be made following the conclusion of each grade level. Students will be presented with their critique sheets, unless teachers have made other prior arrangements. In the case of students who do not stay for the Results Announcement, their teachers are responsible for obtaining the results and contacting students as needed before the Winners' Recital. The scores of the 1st – 4th Place winners will be posted to provide a benchmark for students aspiring to a winning performance in the next competition.
