SA Original Composition Contest

Purpose: To promote student creativity and understanding of basic compositional principles. These include:
Accuracy & legibility in notation
Clarity of design & form
Rhythmic variety
Melodic interest
Harmonic plan
Texture - consistency & unity of rhythmic, melodic, & harmonic ideas
Dynamics & marks of expression
Phrasing & articulations

Requirements: SA membership required.
All must pass State Theory Test, taken through CCMTA.
Deadline: September meeting.
Application:
(1) Entry form - available in the yearbook or online
at www.tmta.org.
Please complete one form for each student entered.
(2) Composition - see TMTA-SA Handbook for guidelines in submittal of manuscripts.
(3) Fee see chart above for appropriate fee for each division.
Each entry receiving excellent or superior rating will be advanced to the state level.
Performance Requirement: All compositions need to be performed in a recital on Saturday, September 22, 2007, at 3:00 p.m. at Linda Anthonys studio.
