SA Original Composition Contest

Purpose: To promote student creativity and understanding of basic compositional principles. These include:

• Accuracy & legibility in notation
• Clarity of design & form
• Rhythmic variety
• Melodic interest
• Harmonic plan
• Texture - consistency & unity of rhythmic, melodic, & harmonic ideas
• Dynamics & marks of expression
• Phrasing & articulations

Requirements: SA membership required. All must pass State Theory Test, taken through CCMTA.

Deadline: September meeting.

Application:

(1) Entry form - available in the yearbook or online at www.tmta.org.
      Please complete one form for each student entered.
(2) Composition - see TMTA-SA Handbook for guidelines in submittal of manuscripts.
(3) Fee – see chart above for appropriate fee for each division.

Each entry receiving excellent or superior rating will be advanced to the state level.


Performance Requirement: All compositions need to be performed in a recital on Saturday, September 22, 2007, at 3:00 p.m. at Linda Anthony’s studio.
